Littles and Bigs bowl together at the 26th Annual Bowl For Kids' Sake!  Local businesses and individuals sponsored Littles Teams at the event on April 5th & 6th, and at the same time helped make it yet another successful year at Bowl-O-Rama in Exeter!

In other Big & Little News:

1.  You know you want one...a mouth-watering Arby's Roast Beef sandwich!  Or how about a delicious Market Fresh Sandwich or Wrap?  Satisfy your craving...and while you are there, you can help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County!  From Memorial Day (May 26th) through June 30th, patrons are asked to donate $1.00 to their local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency.    Nine Arby's locations have joined on in support of our agency here in Berks County:

2.  Set your calendars for tee off!  The 7th Annual Big Brotheers Big Sisters of Berks County Golf Invitational is scheduled for Friday, August 15th  at the Manor Golf Course...with a tee-off time of 1:00 pm.  Check back often.  Additional details on the event -- including the Hole-In-One contest -- are coming soon!

3.  The welcome mat is out for the newest addition to our Big Brothers Big Sisters staff.  Stanton Jasper is the new Youth Activities Coordinator.  Stanton started here at the agency on June 9th.  He is a recent graduate of Alvernia College, but -- while there -- served as Program Leader for the SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) program.  He has also assisted with a mentoring program at Cheltenham School District, and is a past facilitator for the United Way Youth Conference.

4.  It was another successful year for the annual Bowl For Kids' Sake!  Led by Sovereign Bank (21 teams) and the Governor Mifflin Education Association (12 teams), more than 125 bowling teams participated in the 26th annual event at Bowl-O-Rama on April 5th & 6th See our BFKS page for more.  In the meantime, mark your calendards...the 27th Annual Bowl For Kids' Sake has been tentatively set for April 4th & 5th, 2009!!

6.  Corporations approved for Pennsylvania E.I.T.C. (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) program, you can help Big Brothers Big Sisters too.  BBBS of Berks is an approved EITC agency.  Several companies have already contributed EITC funding in 2008 including:  National Penn Bank, Capital Blue Cross (Capital Advantage Insurance Company), and Sovereign Bank.  Call 610-373-5544 for details.

BRIEF OVERVIEW:

Established in 1968, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County, PA, is celebrating 40 years of service to the Berks County community.  Each year, we serve over 300 children -- primarily from single-parent households -- providing them with more than 22,000 hours of supervised mentoring services!

Our mission is to foster positive and measurable growth for at-risk youth, including a strengthened sense of self-worth, development of character, and improved relationships & performance at home, in school, and throughout the community.  We achieve our goal through four mentoring programs utilizing carefully-screened and trained volunteers.

Children serviced include ages 8-19 (with applications taken up to and including 15 years old).

For volunteers, flexibility is the key!  They can choose between our various mentoring programs based on their available time, location, experiences, and more.
